An Extraordinary Time

An Extraordinary Time is a photo column I produced once a week. It originally ran in the The Seattle Post-Intelligencer under the heading “Seattle Perspectives” from 2005 - 2006. Now it is managed independently online in the hope of resuming as a book project.

"An Extraordinary Time" seeks to explain how we got to where we are and how we are shaping our future. It identifies our values, and the evolution of those values, through cultural geographic landscapes and ordinary daily events. It addresses the issues of our time and highlights the extraordinary stories behind the everyday scenes we call “life”.

At any given moment we could be attacked by terrorism, our city could be rocked by a devastating earthquake, or our nation engulfed in a deep depression. Our lives would be changed forever. During this time of war we are witnessing an unprecedented nibbling away of our civil liberties, mounting corporate scandals, and alarming powers growing in the executive branch of government.

Yet life goes on.
Today is yesterday’s destiny. Tomorrow is today’s dream.
Someday we may hear, “Do you remember when?.... that was an extraordinary time.”
